Video Microscope with Monitor

All FV series scopes are bench-top video microscopes designed for inspecting patch cords and ferrules just after polishing. They are available in several magnifications. In general the “400x” models are used after polishing to inspect for fine defects incurred during the polishing or cleaning process. The “200x” models are most commonly used to inspect for cleanliness during system assembly or test, prior to mating connectors.

Westover FV systems have become the industry standard because they deliver crystal clear imaging of fine defects. These systems include a valuable feature not found anywhere else in the industry. When depressed, the ScratchView button implements a specialized contrast enhancement algorithm over the surface of the glass fibre. This filter makes fine defects readily detectable and dramatically reduces the need for extensive training of technicians. Using this feature can help cut down on disputes between vendors and customers as both sides will see every defect.

It should be noted that we have taken liberty with the magnification values stated with these models. Actual magnification is dependent on monitor size.

The FVW series is a modular system, where the video microscope is separate from the monitor. This allows the user to place the monitor on a shelf while the scope is on the bench. It also helps keep the cost of the system down, and enables the user to choose their own monitor if they prefer. The FV- prefix items include the microscope, power supply, video cable, and universal 2.5mm adapter. The FVW- prefix items include all of the FV- contents in addition to a monitor of specified size.

While ScratchView gives the user an unparalleled repeatable method for detecting fine or faint scratches on the core and cladding, using this setting will also wash out any features on the ferrule. It is for this reason that ScratchView is installed as a momentary switch and the original contrast settings are left in place as the default.

Connector adaptors are available for a wide range of connector types and the Universal 2.5mm adaptor will accept ST, SC and FC connectors. Adaptor alignment is pre-set at the factory and it is simply a matter of unscrewing one adaptor and replacing it with another. There is a large focusing ring round the outside of the connector mount that allows crisp, clear images to be displayed.

Using a 9 inch monitor, a 400 times microscope produces an image of approximately 750 times on the screen and a 12 inch monitor produces an image of approximately 1,000 times.

Tech Optics can supply the video microscopes individually or in kit form. A typical kit is illustrated below that will provide a "plug and play" solution for bench top needs. Specify 110 volt or 240 volt operation.

The following table provides a sample of the adaptors available for both the hand held and the bench video microscopes. New adaptors are continually being developed as new connector styles are introduced.
