Optical Time Domain Reflectometers (OTDRs) suffer from the problem of giving errors if the cable under test is plugged directly into the machine. In order to overcome the problem a fibre optic launch lead is required of sufficient length to compensate for the errors. The OTDR Launch Kit provides the solution for both multimode and singlemode fibre measurements.

The 3 fibre launch kit allows up to 2km of optical fibre to be used in a 1, 2 or 3 fibre configuration. The fibres are stored inside a ruggedised carrying and storage case and fibre tails are protected in 3mm diameter cabling and terminated with connectors of user choice, to suit the OTDR interconnect and system under test.

The fibres may be singlemode, 50/125µm or 62.5/125µm or a combination of all three making this kit the most versatile for testing any fibre optic installation. Various fibre combinations are available, such as 1 x 2km of singlemode fibre, or a 3 fibre solution of 1 x 100m of 50/125µm, 1 x 100m of 62.5/125µm and 1x 1km of singlemode. Overall, the maximum capacity is 2km and any combination up to 2km can be supplied.
