XPAB series Indoor-Outdoor Cables are of a loose tube construction and meet the requirements of the UL 1581 and IEEE 383 flame tests for cable tray installation. The cable design features a central strength member around which colour coded buffer tubes, each containing one or more optical fibres, are cabled.
The cabled buffer tubes are sheathed with an additional Kevlar strengthening yarn and the cable completed with a fire retardent polyolefin jacket. This design gives the optimum protection for external applications, balanced against the needs for use inside buildings.
The buffer tubes contain a thixotropic gel which provides both moisture and water protection for the optical fibres. Cables may be installed vertically with no movement of the gel inside the tubes. The loose tube design allows significant temperature variations to occur along the cable (e.g. at the transition from indoors to outdoors) without change in the fibre performance. The XPAB series is available with up to 216 optical fibres.
Each colour coded buffer tube can contain one, two, four, six,
eight, ten or twelve colour coded optical fibres, depending on
the total number of fibres in the cable. Cables of this construction
are available from Tech Optics preterminated with up to
12 connectors and such cables are provided with a pulling boot
fitted to the outer cable end, ready for immediate installation.
Call Tech Optics for details. Indoor-Outdoor Cables are
available with a Low Smoke Zero Halogen jacket (LSZHB Series)
as an option.
