Multiple fibre cables can be preterminated to provide the user with a "Plug and Play" solution to a cable installation. The length of the assembly can be anything from a few metres to as much as 1km, but the design of the assembly must be selected to suit the installation. The options are as follows:
1. For loose tube cables, it is necessary to break out each fibre and provide a carcus sleeve over each fibre before terminating.
2. For tight buffered premise distribution style cables, the fibres can be either directly terminated or they can be carcused as for loose tube fibres. If the run is relatively short and the fibres are going to be installed inside a patch panel, then terminating directly onto 900 micron buffers may be sufficient.
3 Breakout cables can have the fibres individually terminated
as each fibre has its own Kevlar strength member and cable jacket,
usually 2.5mm in diameter. It is only necessary to 'dress' the
cable end with a piece of heat shrink tubing.
For short runs, a simple and cost effective solution is to use a multiple number of simplex (one fibre) or duplex (2 fibre) cables bundled together under a "Cable Eater" jacket. The Cable Eater is a flexible plastic conduit that can be easily opened with a special hand tool, but keeps the cables secure as a bundle when closed. This solution offers a great deal of flexibility and can generate solutions such as removing one or more fibres from the bundle along its route a designated places.
Generally, long lengths (greater than 50 metres) of pre terminated multicore cables require a cable pulling boot. This protects the connectors and allows the cable to be pulled by conventional means. After installation the pulling boot is removed and the connectors plugged directly into the equipment. The length of the tails under the pulling boot are usually staggered in pairs, so all the connectors will fit under the boot and the diameter of the pulling bundle is kept to a minimum.
Usually, we supply preterminated cable assemblies on a three flanged cable reel so that access can be made to both ends of the cable for inspection and testing purposes.
Multicore cable assemblies are always made to order and with customer discussion to ensure the correct product is supplied to suit the application. Tech Optics will provide individual quotations for these products and you can send an email to techsupport@techoptics.com with your requirements and we will send you a quotation.
